63 Wonderful Years
A short history of 2nd Hucknall.

In the year of 2005 2nd Hucknall (Parish Church) Scout Group
Celebrated it's 60th Anniversary.

The group was founded in 1945 by Kenneth Read, the headmaster of the National School. The group was registered at the Imperial Headquarters
in June of that year and had a Scout Troop & Wolf Cub Pack. Originally the group met at the National School, later moving to the church hall
on Ogle Street. In the 1970's the group then moved into it's present headquarters behind St Mary Magdalene Church,
(burial place of Lord Byron).

A former Scoutmaster stated that in the late 1940's & early 1950's the troop averaged forty members. When the troop went camping, they also took non-scout/guide boys & girls from the National School. Since
then the numbers in  the group have varied over the years. As to
the present day, our numbers are on an increase.

The group currently has a Large Beaver Scout Colony, a healthy
Cub Pack and an ever  increasing Scout Troop. We no longer have an Explorer Unit as we have join forces with the Merlin Explorer Unit
based at 3rd Hucknall Scout Group. In November 2005 the Scout Group became Co-ed and began welcoming girls into our Group.
